PALM BEACH STATE COLLEGE

Schmidt Nichols acted as sub-consultant to Song + Associates to provide the landscape architecture and irrigation plans for the Bachelor of Applied Sciences Center at Palm Beach State College. This expansion project marked the college's transformation from a community college into a state college that now offers Bachelors degrees to students all throughout Palm Beach County.

A portion of the existing parking lot was demolished and reconfigured as a continuation of the Lake Worth Road entry to accomodate the new drop off area at the front of the building. The landscape plans included a palm tree-lined boulevard to match the existing entry sequence off Lake Worth Road.  In addition, required plantings were included for the new parking lot areas, foundation planting was designed along the facades of the facility while courtyard plantings were used to enhance the main entrance.  The center's landscape design was modernized by adding multiple tiers of plantings and large palms to complement the architecture and to give the new building a sophisticated look.  The plantings specified on the landscape plan incorporated the college's existing plant palette in order to create a cohesive design for the new building.
